![]() Pokémon Stats Deter valuesDeter values, or 'DVs' are the 'genes' of a Pokémon which determine what their stats will be. Whilst actual stats of a Pokémon can be altered through levelling up, the use of stat boosters or the box trick, a Pokémon's DVs will never change. It doesn't matter how many Irons you give a Pikachu, it's Defense will never be higher than that of an Onix of the same level. It is because of DVs that one Mewtwo is faster than another, and so forth. DVs are represented by a number between 0 and 15; 0 being the lowest possible DV and 15 being the highest. A Pokémon with DVs of 15/15/15/15 will have max stats. DVs are usually given in the format of Attack/Defense/Speed/Special. Note that in G/S, the Special DV is the same for both Special Attack and Special Defense. So, if someone says that one of their Pokémon has DVs of 2/15/8/13, that means that the Pokémon has very bad Attack, maximum Defense, average Speed and good Special. HP is calculated from the other four DVs. If the Attack DV is an odd number, 8 is added to the HP DV, if the Defense DV is odd, 4 is added, if the Special DV is odd, 2 is added, and if the Speed DV is odd, 1 is added. So, for a Pokémon with DVs of 2/15/8/13, the Defense and Special DVs are odd, so the HP DV is 5 (4+1). Calculating DVsYou're probably now wondering how to work out what DVs your Pokémon has. First of all, you have to train your Pokémon to Level 100, feed it stat boosters and use the box trick until its stats will not go any higher. Then, use the following formula: DV = 15 - ( (M - Y) / 2 ) M is the max stats of a Pokémon and Y is its actual stat. Alternatively, if you have a Pokémon below Level 50 that has never thought any battles, feed it Rare Candies until it gets to Level 50 and use the following formulae (this also works with Pokémon that were caught at Level 50, as long as they haven't won any battles yet): HP:
DV = Y - ( B + 10 ) Y is the actual stat of the Pokémon, and B is its base stat. Base statsSome sources will list base stats instead of max stats. You can easily convert base stats to max stats at Level 100 with this simple formula: M = ( B * 2 ) + U M
is the max stat.
Using a Gameshark to alter Pokémon statsRed/Blue/Yellow codes: To get a Pokémon to Level 100 with maximum stat experience (see here for more information on stat experience) using a Gameshark, Game Genie or similar game modification device, you must enter the following codes:
Once you have entered and selected all of the above codes, start the game. Choose the Pokémon you want to modify, and put it in the top slot in your team. Turn the switch on the top of the device to the 'on' position. Then, switch it off. Deposit the Pokémon you have just modified into the PC, and then withdraw it again. It should be at Level 100 with its personal max stats (its personal max will probably be lower than the species max given in the Pokédexes linked to above). It may be over Level 100, in which case you should have it beat a wild Pokémon, and its Level will return to 100. You can now check its stats and calculate its DVs using the formula given above. If, however, you wish to give your Pokémon different DVs, use the following codes as well as the others listed above.
The first ? is the Attack DV, the second ? is the Defense DV, the third is for Speed and the fourth is for Special. See the following table for what you should put in place of the ?s:
So, for DVs of 0/15/15/12, you would enter the following extra codes:
Gold/Silver
codes: Level
100 and Stat Experience codes: DV
codes: My thanks to spunman for helping me improve this guide.
