Rock

"Rock types? Why use one of them? They're weak!"

That's something I hear far too often. Most of the people on this board are pretty good when it comes to this, but I have too often been questioned on the use of my Rhydon, Aerodactyl, Omastar, etc. Truthfully, though they seem to have many weaknesses, Rock types are quite good. Heh, maybe this little essay will help someone out there, although I doubt it.

Ranking according to stat totals:

Aerodactyl -
Rhydon -
Kabutops -
Omastar -
Golem -
Onix -

On to the Pokemon!
-----------------------------------------

Golem -
HP: 363
Attack: 318
Defense: 358
Speed: 188
Special: 208

Golem is a great pokemon, but still, I don't think he's as good as Rhydon. He's got good HP, Good attack and great Defense. His Speed and Special are pretty bad though. He can't learn the wide range of elemental attacks that Rhydon can, but why bother? His low special would prevent him from using them effectively.

    Onix -
    HP: 278
    Attack: 188
    Defense: 418
    Speed: 238
    Special: 158

To steal a quote from Azure Heights, every type has their Magikarp. High Defense and decent Speed for a rock type may deceive one at first, but the moment you see his Attack, HP and Special... well, I think you can see for yourself. I really can't think of a great moveset for Onix, because of his poor stats, but I'll do my best.

    -----------------------------------------

    Rhydon -
    HP: 413
    Attack: 358
    Defense: 338
    Speed: 178
    Special: 188

Plain and simple, Rhydon's the best of the Rock/Ground types (Heh GK's gonna kill me for saying that). His HP and Attack are far superior, while his Speed and Special fall just short of Golem's. His Defense, which is by absolutely no means bad, also falls just short of Golem's.

    -Suggested Moveset
    Same as Golem's

    -----------------------------------------

    Omastar -
    HP: 343
    Attack: 218
    Defense: 348
    Speed: 208
    Special: 328

Omastar's a great pokemon, arguably one of the best Rock types. Decent HP, High Special and Defense, this guy's a tank. His low Attack and Speed don't seem to affect him negatively. He can also learn many great moves.

    Kabutops -
    HP: 323
    Attack: 328
    Defense: 308
    Speed: 258
    Special: 238

Kabutops is a pretty good pokemon. His Attack and Defense are both good, as is his Speed when compared to other Rock types. HP isn't great, and Special is a bit of a mixed blessing. Compared to Rock types, it's great. Compared to Water types, it's bad.

    Aerodactyl -
    HP: 363
    Attack: 308
    Defense: 228
    Speed: 358
    Special: 218

A lot of people dislike this guy. I'm not sure why, his stats aren't that bad. In fact, only his Defense is really bad. His Special is just about average for Rock, and just below for Flying, types. HP is good, as is Attack. Speed is his real seller, though. I find that Aero makes a great SD'ing Mew killer.

  • Double Team
