![]() Poison Poison Pokémon are weak to Psychic, Ground, and Bug type attacks, but since the majority of Poison Pokémon are dual types, this is not very accurate. Poison Pokémon have a resistance to Grass, Fighting, and Poison type attacks, and can't be poisoned.

Tentacruel Type(s):
Water/Poison Comments: Tentacruel has the highest total stats of all poison type Pokémon, and is tied for 5th in the game for the special stat. Tentacruel is a dual type (Water/Poison), thus creating a different set of weaknesses, and resistances. Its weaknesses are to Psychic, Ground, Bug, and Electric type attacks. Its resistances are to Water, Fire, Ice, Fighting, and Poison type attacks. Its half Poison type cancels out it's weakness to Grass types attacks, making them do normal damage. So, if you're looking for a good poison Pokémon, put Tentacruel at the top of your list, with great special, good speed and hp, and the ability to learn barrier, this Pokémon is an excellent choice. Moveset(s):
Barrier,
Mega Drain, Blizzard, Surf
Type(s): Ghost/Poison Max
stats: Comments: Gengar has the second highest total stats for Poison type Pokémon. It has a massive special (3rd highest in the game), and a great speed stat. It is also a dual type (Ghost/Poison) as all ghosts in Pokémon red, blue and yellow are. Its weaknesses are to Psychic, Ground, Bug, and Ghost type attacks. Its resistances are to Grass, poison, fighting, and normal type Pokémon. Gengar has a 4X resistance to poison attacks, and is not affected by normal and fighting type attacks. Gengar also has the ability to learn one of the greatest moves in the game: Confuse Ray. Team up Confuse Ray with his speed, and you have an extremely annoying Pokémon. He is also the fastest Pokémon to learn a sleeping technique, but since that sleeping technique is Hypnosis... I think you can derive your own conclusion ;). Gengar also has great versatility, and is a great overall choice for any team. Moveset(s): Confuse
Ray, Rest, Double Team, Seismic Toss
Type(s): Grass/Poison Max
stats: Comments: This Pokémon is normally neglected because it's a starter, but of the Grass/Poison types, Venusaur has the highest total stats. Due to its dual grass type, it also has different weaknesses and strengths. It's weaknesses are to Fire, Flying, Ice, Psychic, and bug type attacks. It is 4X weak to bug attacks, but it's resistances are to Water, Grass, Electric, and Fighting type techniques. It is 4X resistant to Grass type attacks. So, the next time you are looking for a Grass/Poison type, put Venusaur into consideration, with the ability to learn sleep powder and sword's dance, it can pack a powerful Body Slam. Moveset(s): Sleep Powder, Razor Leaf, Body Slam, Sword's Dance
Type(s): Poison Max
stats: Comments: Of the pure poison type Pokémon, Weezing has the highest total stats. Since he's a pure Poison Pokémon, you can check the top for it's weaknesses and resistances. Weezing is a versatile Pokémon, able to learn attacks of many elements. In addition to it's versatility, it has a great defense, decent special and attack, and can learn arguably one of the best moves in the game, Haze. Haze eliminates all status changes, making Weezing an excellent choice for those annoying double team and Amnesia using Pokémon. Moveset(s): Haze, Fire Blast, Thunderbolt, Explosion/Sludge Type(s):Grass/Poison Max
stats: Comments: Victrebell is another Grass/Poison type Pokémon, it has the same weaknesses as Venusaur, and is tied for the highest attack possessed by a poison Pokémon (the other poison Pokémon being Muk). It also has a great special. Team up his high attack with the ability to learn Sleep Powder and Sword's Dance, you can power him up quite quickly. Victrebell also learns arguably the best grass type attack in the game, Razor Leaf. With it's high critical hit rate, it has a power of 110, with out the need to power up, compared to Solar Beam's 120 power, and the need to power up. Moveset(s): Stun Spore/Sleep Powder, Razor Leaf, Swords Dance, Body Slam
Type(s): Ground/Poison Max
stats: Comments: Nidoking has fairly rounded stats in all areas, good attack, special a little low, decent speed and average defense. The thing that seperates Nidoking from most other poison Pokémon is it's dual ground type, it creates a whole new set of resistances and weaknesses. Nidoking is weak to Water, Ice, Ground, Bug, and Psychic type attacks. It is resistant to Electric, Fighting, Poison, and Rock Type attacks. It has a 4X resistance to Poison attacks, and is completely immune to Electric attacks. It also has an excellent tm capability (it can learn: Fire Blast, Thunder Bolt, Blizzard, and Surf to name a few), and has a fairly decent special to capitalize on his TM Capability. . Moveset(s): Earthquake, Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Rock Slide Type(s): Ground/Poison Max
stats: Comments: Nidoqueen is much like it's counterpart Nidoking, both have the sam total stats, but I think that Nidoqueen has them in more important places, Nidoqueen has better Defense and HP, equivalent special, and lower Attack and Speed. Nidoqueen has exactly the same TM compatibility as Nidoking, but unfortunately, it has the same below average special. It also shares Nidoking's dual ground type, making it own the same weaknesses and resistances as Nidoking. Moveset(s): Earthquake, Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Rock Slide
Type(s): Poison Max
stats: Comments: Another one of the pure poison type Pokémon, Muk has some horrible stats, but these can be overlooked with his massive hp, and his great attack. Muk also learns some of the greatest moves in the game. It learns Minimize, Acid Armor, Screech and Explosion, which help him out in all the areas that he needs. Although Muk lacks in special, speed, and defense, those can be overlooked with his great moves, and TM capability. He has a similar TM capability to Weezing, and has the possibility to learn Thunder Bolt and Fire Blast, and Mega Drain. Unfortuanately, Muk also can't put his great TM capability to use due to his low special, but he's still a good choice for any team. Moveset(s): Acid Armor, Minimize, Sludge, Body Slam/Explosion Type(s): Grass/Poison Max
stats: Comments: Vileplume has the lowest stats of the Poison/Grass types. Unlike his fellow Grass/Poison types, Vileplume doesn't learn Razor Leaf, instead, it learns Petal Dance, which isn't as powerful as Razor Leaf. Petal Dance attacks for 2-3 times in a row with a power of 70, but after those rounds, the Pokémon becomes confused. Vileplume can also utilize the combo that has been used on the other three Poison/Grass type Pokémon (the Sleep Powder, Sword's Dance, Body Slam combo). Vileplume possesses the same resistances and weaknesses as the other Poison/Grass Pokémon (See Venusaur) . Overall, Vileplume isn't that great of a Pokémon, and can't compete with the other Poison/Grass types. Moveset(s): Petal Dance, Sleep Powder, Swords Dance, Body Slam
Type(s): Flying/Poison Max
stats: Comments: Golbat has always been one of my favorite Pokémon. Well rounded stats teamed up with great move capability makes Golbat a great choice. Even though he doesn't have a great TM capability, he still learns some of the greatest moves in the game (Confuse Ray, Haze, Screech). Golbat is the only Flying/Poison Pokémon in the game, creating a whole different set of weaknesses and resistances. His weaknesses are to Ice, Psychic, Electric, and Rock type attacks. He's resistant to Grass, Fighting, Ground, and poison type attacks. He is 4X resistant to Grass and fighting type attacks, and is immune to ground type attacks. Golbat is a great Pokémon, but suffers from low stats and weakness to the most common types. . Moveset(s): Haze, Confuse Ray, Screech, Mega Drain
Type(s): Bug/Poison Max
stats: Comments: Venomoth is a Poison/Bug dual type. It has fairly well rounded stats, learns some great moves naturally, and by TM. It's dual type creates new resistances and weaknesses. It's weaknesses are to Fire, Psychic, Flying, and Bug type attacks. It's resistances are to Grass, and Fighting type attacks, but, it has a 4X resistance to both. Moveset(s): Mega Drain, Sleep Powder, Psychic, Double Team/Reflect
Type(s): Poison Max
stats: Comments: Of the pure poison Pokémon, Arbok has the lowest total stats. I don't suggest using it. Moveset(s): Earthquake, Body Slam/Acid, Glare, Rock Slide
Type(s): Bug/Poison Max
stats: Comments: Beedrill is another Bug/Poison type Pokémon, giving him the same Weaknesses/Resistances as Venomoth. Beedrill may have the lowest stats of all poison Pokémon, but on stadium, he may actually be of some use. With the ability to learn both Focus Energy and Twineedle (pretty much the best bug type attack in the game), he can have a pretty powerful Twineedle in a short amount of time, with Substitute to protect him from status changes, and agility to give him the first attack, you'll have a pretty decent poke. Moveset(s): Twineedle,
Sword's Dance, Double Team, Rest
